Quick customization checklist
Before sending, make sure the application:
- Uses the exact job title shown in the posting.
- Addresses the hiring manager by name when it is known.
- Includes one concrete achievement, ideally with a number or measurable result.
- Reflects keywords from the job description naturally.
- Explains why this particular company or role interests you.
- Names all attached documents clearly, such as [First name Last name] - Resume.pdf.
- Avoids repeating every detail from the résumé.
- Uses PDF attachments unless the employer requests another format.
- Has a clear subject line and professional file names.
- Is proofread for names, spelling, grammar, and attachment errors.
A strong email cover letter is usually about 200–300 words. The most persuasive version focuses less on what the applicant wants and more on the relevant experience, results, and value they can bring to the employer.
